The Instrument I Play

I started violin not too long ago with a great violin teacher and would like to share some of what I have learned. 1. The songs. Because I am using Suzuki, these are the songs I have learned so far: "Mississippi Hot Dog", "Mississippi, Mississippi", and other Twinkle Variations "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" "Lightly Row"… Continue reading The Instrument I Play

Gladys Aylward

Too old.  A housemaid.  Poor. Not smart enough.  Unqualified. Gladys Aylward was all of these things in the world's eyes; but not in God's. She failed missionary training school, the place where she was old by their standards.  A housemaid who made the journey to China with her own money.  Later, she was appointed… Continue reading Gladys Aylward

Gospel On Your Feet

Recently, I got two new pairs of flip-flops and instead of keeping them plain, I decorated them with Bible verses.  You can witness with your flip-flops!  People may wonder why you wrote on your shoes, and ask you; here's your chance to share the Gospel!  I guess this activity is more for young girls, but… Continue reading Gospel On Your Feet

This was my first time taking part… Continue reading An Open Letter to Spinzilla

Experiments, Lesson 7

Tonight at midnight ends the Spinzilla contest.  It has been fun, exciting, and I have learned quite a bit.  I think I just started truly learning about spinning. Today's lesson was an accident.  My mom was trying to thin out my white wool and when she tried to spin it, it kept breaking.  The weight… Continue reading Experiments, Lesson 7

Painted Wool vs. White Wool

Today I have spun white wool without any color added.  I have enjoyed it and noticed some interesting differences: Hand painted wool is a somewhat harder to pre-draft.  It is a little more course, but does not break easily.  The non-painted wool is very soft.  It is easy to pre-draft and spin, but it breaks… Continue reading Painted Wool vs. White Wool

Guest Post, Lessons Learned

Spinzilla has made for an interesting and fun week.  A week before it began, my daughter was signed up by her Grandmother and Aunt.  A second notice appeared, so I thought there was a mistake of being double charged.  I inquired about it and was told, there was no double charge...I was signed up!  Yikes!!… Continue reading Guest Post, Lessons Learned

How to Get Your Family Involved, Lesson 4

I climb up a small two-step ladder and my brother and sister take turns spinning the spindle while I hold the wool and work it into yarn.  My two-year old brother makes yarn with a stick and some wool without too much struggle.  My Dad wakes up early to make my  Mom and I another… Continue reading How to Get Your Family Involved, Lesson 4
