Rest: How to Recharge and Reset Intentionally

It’s time for summer break! This is the time for vacations, pools, sunshine, watermelon, flip-flops, and all the summery vibes. I love this time of year. I get to hang out with friends, swim every day, and just relax.

Lately though, I realized that instead of resting, I tend to fill up my breaks with pointless busyness and entertainment. I waste my rest time, so I don’t reap the full benefits of the break. I’ve found the same problem occurs during the school year on the weekends or in the evenings when I’ve completed my school assignments.

Instead of taking some time to enjoy the silence, I fill my hours with more background noise. Instead of pressing “pause”, I waste hours on YouTube and spend the days with my headphones on. As a result, rather than feeling rested and recharged, I feel guilty and overstimulated.

Can anyone relate?

I realize now that rest takes intentionality. Instead of watching YouTube, I need to take a nap or go on a walk. When I use my rest hours intentionally rather than wastefully, my days feel longer and more rewarding. Though I end up doing more, I end up feeling more rested and recharged.

With that said, I have some practical ideas of how you can take some time to intentionally recharge for your summer break. By all means, have fun and add summery events to make this summer a blast and take time to enjoy your break!

Rest doesn’t have to be boring. Some people find that parties help them recharge and some people just need some time to themselves. Do what works for you! Just take some time to change things up, step back, and enjoy life. I think we can miss special moments because we fill every moment of silence with entertainment and background noise. I challenge you to enjoy every minute and glorify God with the time He’s given you.

Enjoy your summer, friends!! 🌞

Let’s Talk!

  1. Oh yes. Super relevant! Thank you for the tips! Whenever I try to “rest” and end up wasting my time over pointless things, I get depressed and definitely NOT rested! This was just what I needed to read– good job!
