How to Instantly Increase Blog Traffic

My blog traffic has increased drastically over the last 6 months. Along with views, my readers have been commenting much more and monthly follows have skyrocketed. While this is partly due to my regular posting and effort to produce quality content, I have found three other strategies that are especially helpful in increasing traffic.

1. Get Rid of WordPress Email List (and replace with Mailchimp)

I follow a large number of bloggers, and I see so many of them making this one mistake. WordPress bloggers, the free WordPress email list is one of the worst things you can use! Whenever I sign up for a WordPress email list and the blogger posts a new article, I get an email with the ENTIRE post in my inbox. I can read everything without going to the blog, and I am less compelled to comment. I’m not already on the page, so it takes a lot of interest and kindness on my part to go to the page just to comment. When I realized how terrible this was to my blog growth, I decided to switch to the free program, Mailchimp. Mailchimp allows for bloggers to import all their email contacts from WordPress, so you don’t have to lose your progress. While it does take an extra 15-minutes or so to compose the email, I can put an excerpt of the blog post and send my readers to my blog for the rest of it. I am currently using Mailchimp’s free version, so there are some limitations: you have to have their brand at the end of your emails and can’t schedule the emails ahead of time. Overall, though, I’ve found the free version to work well.

Tip: Since Mailchimp has users construct an email from scratch, create a basic template and save it to conserve time.

2. WordPress Interaction

I found that if I make the effort to comment on and like other blog articles, people often come check out my blog. Of course, I still have a genuine interest in the article when I comment (don’t spam!), and I don’t use this as my only motivation. Commenting also is kind and encourages blogger friendships! Go explore the WordPress Reader, find some interesting blogs, and enjoy! You get to put your name out there and have an amazing time all at once!

3. Backlink!!

I have only been getting serious about this lately, and it has increased views-per-visitor SO much. When you think of a blog post you’ve published before that relates to a new blog post, add a link! This will keep your readers engaged after they’re done reading your current blog post. It also lets new readers check out some content from your archives. If you look at my recent blog posts, you will notice that I leave links in the blog post and also at the end. Take a look at this one to see what I mean. (See, I just made a backlink! 😆)

With those three strategies, I am confident you will see an increase in your blog traffic. Quality content and professionalism also are extremely important, so be sure to remember to make an effort to achieve both.   5. So, I have to admit I know NOTHING about blogging. What are the benefits of increased blog traffic?
    And also, off topic, do you think you’ll be coming to camp again this year?

    1. It really depends on your blog goals. Most everyone wants a popular blog, and blog traffic is just a fancy name for people visiting your blog. If you also later want to make money through your blog or really get your message out, views help you rank higher on Google and make a community of readers. And, yes, my plan is to go to camp. I’m super excited and hoping it’ll happen despite this crazy pandemic. 😉

      1. Blogging sounds confusing! So, when you first start one, how do you get people to find your blog?
        I’m already signed up for camp! I’ll look forward to seeing you there!❤ I can’t see this quarantine lasting for many more months, so I’m hoping it will still happen!

        1. I guess blogging can seem confusing, but it’s not too difficult. There are other ways to get higher rankings in Google like correct image size or post length. Again, people only bother with these if they are looking to gain popularity.

  6. Great tips. Thanks for sharing! I don’t really want to do an email list, I do comment and like on other peoples’ blogs, but I never knew linking to old posts increased your traffic. Cool! I will have to try that!
