Have you ever had a writer’s block? Have you ever felt like you have absolutely no ideas for a blog post, paper, or story you have to write? Here are a few fun, easy ways to gather inspiration.
1. Turn on the Music!
For some reason, music gets my creativity going, and my mind working. Sometimes if I listen to a good, upbeat song, I have a sudden flow of ideas. While I was doing the dishes the other day with my headphones on, I came up with a long list of blog post titles. I probably won’t use them all, but I can refer to the list for ideas. So get that speaker and turn up the music! Who knows how long your list of ideas will be? Here are a few of my favorite songs you can check out (P.S. search for them on Spotify:):
- “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten
- “Brave”, “Glow”, “Well Done”, and “Stand Strong” by Moriah Peters
- “Giants Fall”, “Free to Be Me”, and “Beautiful, Beautiful” by Francesca Battistelli
- “Warrior” by Hannah Kerr ( I like the “Battle Cry Remix” version)
2. Keep a Notebook Nearby (I need to work on this one!)
Sometimes you just aren’t getting inspiration when you sit down to write. But maybe ideas pop into your head when you’re not needing them. When this happens, pull out paper and jot it down. It can be just minutes before you forget the idea and you’ll be desperately trying to remember it later.
3. Keep a Journal
I need to work on this, too (we’re doing this together!) Write about things going on around you in a journal. Life experience makes for the best stories! You can see some of what I did with writing about my life by checking out the posts under the “Life Experiences” category (see the sidebar). Maybe this will help you find some inspiration! And a bonus to writing about life is that life can be very funny and provide material to make readers laugh! Just check out my post about skunks!
4. Look Up Quotes, Look at Pictures, and Study Your Little Siblings’ Artwork!
Look at other people’s creativity… it can spark some creativity in you and give you some ideas. But don’t copy!)

Hi Rachel, I enjoyed this post! I’m a writer and I’ve certainly had those episodes when I’m only coughing up “stale bread”, if you know what I mean? I’ve not thought about music as being a way to rest my mind, but that’s a good one. Sometimes I just get in the car, driving around I let my mind rest from the subject at hand and then often the creative juices flow again. I do keep pads of paper around my house, by my bed, scrapes of envelope or receipts from purchases and I jot thoughts on all when my mind is at rest. Other times I just write on through and even if the words seem plastic, I can come back later, add and edit! And other times it helps to talk to someone else about what I’m writing. Keep blogging!

Yes, I agree! We all have those episodes some time or other, and those ideas you have are great! Resting my mind and thinking about something else would definitely help me! Much better than just staring at a blank page:) It’s funny, but the ideas usually come when I least expect them, but they go away in seconds. I have to put some more paper scraps around the house too.😉
